The new wave of Movie Video Games is the best ever
There’s been licensed movie video games nearly as long as there have been ways to play video and computer games. Whilst a number of them impressive, a greater number have been unfortunately lacking in nigh on every aspect that made the feature films they are based on iconic. At the moment, thankfully there is a bunch of superb examples of movie video games out to enjoy- a couple of which could well be more interesting than the movies themselves!
First on our list there’s the official movie video game based on X-Men Origins: Wolverine. This awesome adventure game is thankfully a lot better than the Wolverine film itself! Developed by Raven Software, the game boasts a somewhat different plot to the popular movie, but it does contain Hugh Jackman’s voice and visual likeness. The game features all of Wolverine’s abilities, which are put to use in an interesting way- in particular his healing ability.
As far as Marvel games go, the X-Men Origins: Wolverine movie video game is very violent, as you will see from the battlefield scattered with decimated cadavers and other not-so-cute things. Well, the Wolverine character certainly has claws. Here you are able to make him use them to their full lethal effect.
Next up there is the awesome multi-platform game established on Terminator Salvation, the latest film in the time travelling cyborg science fiction adventure series. Where both Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines and its movie video game version were awful, this looks to be going in tandem with the brave new vision of the new film and is great to look at and play. Here’s a notable example of how movie video games are improving a great deal lately.
Now with two player co-operative play, the Terminator franchise is catching up with other video games such as mega-hit Gears of War series, allowing for some serious split-screen action to be enjoyed. Pair this with the beautifully rendered futuritic distopian setting that the movie video game is set in, which you can use to your full advantage when playing the game, and you have one impressive prospect for several video games consoles Sony Playstation 3 and Xbox 360.
The new Ghostbusters movie video game is something that is causing a huge stir. With news that Ghostbusters 3 is finally heading into production, 20 years after the first Ghostbusters sequel came out, now is a great time to remind yourself of the original Ghostbusters characters and scenes. Let’s face it, the first movie is an absolute classic in every sense of the concept, and at last there is a movie video game that does it the justice it deserves.
The plot of the new Ghostbusters game was written by Harold Ramis and Dan Ackroyd, the writers (and stars) of the classic first two Ghostbusters feature films, so the new game may even be canon to a certain level. The classic original four Ghostbusters movie characters are recreated as fantastic digital versions of the stars, and the whole game looks brilliant. All of your vital stats are given on your Proton pack, giving this movie video game a similar atmosphere to Dead Space. With all of the iconic creatures turning up in the game, fans will be delighted when they snap it up for their DS, PS3, PC, Xbox 360 or Wii.
After so many lacking movie video game tie-ins, it seems to be that the best new titles that are coming onto the market are being made with much more reverence for the source material and also what fans demand out of a movie video game based on their most loved movies. These are a selection of the finest movie video games available right now, and hopefully they’ll help you discover a great new level of fun of your favourite movies.
