X-Men Origins: Wolverine: A film tie-in game that will blow your geeky mind
Despite the recent latest Marvel film X-men Origins: Wolverine garnering something of a negative critical nod (not forgetting a huge amount of scorn from the hardcore Marvel comics addicts), the new Wolverine video game looks like it might be the most awesome superhero film tie-in in a very long time. Even with the movie juggling with continuity to a great extent, the developers of the licensed X-men Origins: Wolverine video game have faced the challenge to get hold of the original material and come up with something cool out of the chaotic mix of a film. They’ve done a damn good job, too. The results are there for you all to play for yourself in the new Wolverine video game on the PS3, Xbox and Wii.
A Wolverine video game has never really been able to recreate the essence of the character that countless comic and graphic novel enthusiasts have adored for many years. However, the brand new X-Men Origins: Wolverine video game does seem to hit the mark, which is very impressive seeing as the Wolverine film itself seems to have been a huge misfire. This could be a very rare occurrence indeed- a licensed game that is actually a lot better than the
film it is based on.
The first thing you’ll take note of is the cool combat system the game offers. It does capture some of the thrilling action that being Wolverine would afford you. His mutant healing power adds another dimension to events too, and it is great to see a mainstay of his comic book and film incarnation done so well by the Wolverine video game designers. Logan’s attributes in this new Wolverine video game constantly regenerate as you receive injuries, but you’ll have to duck and hide a while if your energy is sapped too much.
With ever more fearsome villains to fight throughout the game, it becomes an increasingly exciting experience the more you work at it. With excellent visuals and sound, it does dump you into the midst of the adventure, and with so many X-Men comic characters showing up throughout this Wolverine video game, there is plenty to keep die-hard fans thrilled. Another decent feature of the game-play is the ability to focus on certain aspects of Wolverine’s sharpened senses by using your control pad, letting you spot bad guys, exits and more that you possibly otherwise miss.
As an overall video game, the X-Men Origins: Wolverine video game is a whopping success, serving you all the thrills of the Wolverine film on the best video games consoles with added elements that the film lacks. With clear, beautiful visuals and powerful sound design, the game really gets you intothe character and his berserker rage, and is a welcome addition to the number of Marvel movies video games.
